Match Preview & Highlights: Belgium 2 Algeria 1

Late goals from substitutes Marouane Fellaini and Dries Mertens saw Belgium battle back to defeat Algeria 2-1 in their Group H opener.
Belgium started slowly, with a long-range strike from Axel Witsel after 20 minutes about the best Marc Wilmots' men had to offer during the opening stages.

Shortly afterwards, Algeria -- who had made some headway down the flanks -- earned a penalty when Valencia winger Sofiane Feghouli was dragged down by Jan Vertonghen in the area. Feghouli stepped up and coolly converted, in the process becoming the first player to score for Algeria at a World Cup since Djamel Zidane in 1986.
The Red Devils began to show signs of improvement as the half wore on, and that continued into the second half, but it was not until the game entered its final 20 minutes that they were able to force an equaliser: Kevin De Bruyne swung in a cross from which Fellaini powered a header past Algeria goalkeeper Rais M'Bolhi.
Within 10 minutes, they had a second. Eden Hazard raced away down the left before playing a slide-rule pass to the right for Mertens -- who had replaced Romelu Lukaku at half-time -- to unleash a shot into the net.
